9/10: Small Wins Matter

I woke up at 8 AM. I slept so well that I felt great. I headed to my favorite Starbucks, which is just about a five-minute walk from the hostel where I’m staying. The same person was working there again.

I didn’t have anything specific that I wanted to do, so it was a perfect day for me to focus on getting things done. I ended up staying at Starbucks for more than a few hours. I was completely locked in.

After leaving, I went to Sri Weld Food Court, where I had been the day before. This time, I got nasi lemak with prawns and fried rice. Since I didn’t want to pay for drinks, I got the food to go and headed back to the hostel to eat it. However, on the way, it started pouring rain, so I decided to eat it on the street.

It was delicious, but the nasi lemak was much spicier than I expected. My mouth was burning, and I even started tearing up a little.

After eating lunch, I had no reason to go back to the hostel, so I ended up spending another few hours at a café/restaurant, where I edited a video for YouTube.

After leaving there, I felt like I should move my body, so I walked for about 20 minutes to get to a hawker center. I had a popular dish called char koay teow, a stir-fried rice noodle dish, at Chong Charcoal Seafood. I had to wait for more than 30 minutes, but it was delicious.

I walked back to the hostel, and it was already past 9 PM, so I took a rest with a feeling of accomplishment.

I realized that small wins matter a lot. How you spend your time in the morning affects the rest of your day. I was so focused in the morning that the momentum kept going until the afternoon.

On the other hand, I’ve experienced situations where I don’t feel like doing anything after wasting time in the morning. The better you spend your time in the morning, the better the rest of your day becomes. I think it’s an important lesson.

No matter how small something is, once you get it done at the beginning of the day, you’ll feel more motivated to do the things you value or need to do.
